Within our practice we have seen a range of people presenting with heel pain. Some come with large splits and cracks in the heel resulting in pain and discomfort. Others we have seen came with a piece of glass or foreign body sticking into the skin and while others have came in with fractured heel bone.
While there are many causes of heel pain as mentioned, Plantar fasciitis is mechanical condition affecting the heel and sometime the arch is the most common cause of heel pain most of our patients have been presenting. Abnormal mechanical forces, poor foot posture, excessively low arch or high arch profile, poor footwear, excessive weight are some of the most common causes of why some individual develop plantar fasciitis.
As podiatrists or foot and ankle specialists, we are well equipped to deal with you heel or other foot pain concerns. If you are suffering from plantar fasciitis, it is in your best interest to treat the problem as soon as possible as longterm plantar fasciitis can lead to potential heel spurs. Heel spurs on the other hand is a bony growth in the bottom of the heel which is some cases can only be resolved with surgery depending on the size of the spur.
